Revisiting the Summer Capital: Baguio Cathedral & Burnham Park

Date of visit: May 9, 2010

Mark and I were still tired from our tour on our first day in Baguio, but we were up early the next morning for another tour around the city.

Whenever my family goes out on a vacation, it has always been a tradition for us to visit the church in the place.

And so we started our 2nd day by hearing mass at the Baguio Cathedral. We arrived a bit late though so we weren't able to get seats inside the church. :p

I so love that the church is pink! :D

After our Vigan trip, our next stop was Baguio. We arrived in Baguio on May 8, a few hours past lunch. After lunch, while the others chose to just stay at home to have some rest, Mark and I roamed around the village.

Family Weekend Feasts

I bet weekends are the most-awaited part of the week for most of us. But if there's one person who really loves weekends (especially Sundays) more than any other day, that would be no other than my dad.

Aside from not having to worry about work, it is also during weekends when the family becomes complete. And what happens when we are all complete? We get to enjoy his labor of love through sumptuous feasts! And there goes poor me, breaking my diet again! Haha!

Just like last Sunday when my dad cooked lunch for us. I requested for veggies and my dad gladly obliged.

Veggies (eggplant, okra, squash, malunggay) in Coconut Milk

Since the above dish also had pork in it, my dad added a seafood dish.

Crabs in Coconut Milk

Our meals will never be complete without soups, so my dad also cooked Miki.

And then we had brownies for dessert (thanks to Mark! :p)

Hizon's Brownies

We usually have these kinds of feasts almost every week though I don't really get to post them right away. ;p So the following will be about other weekend feasts which I thought I needed to share hehe..

Saturday Seafood Feast
June 5, 2010

We were restraining from meat that time (I think ;p) so we opted for seafood instead.

Of all my dad's specialties, seafoods in coconut milk will always be the best for me. Sautéed and cooked to perfection in coconut milk, the shrimps, mussels, and crabs surely were a hit for all of us!

Adobong pusit was also on the menu.  This is another delectable dish!

For the soup, we had Dinengdeng, another delicious Ilocano delicacy. It's basically a soup with veggies and fish. If I remember it right, they also use fish paste (bagoong isda) instead of fish paste (patis) as seasoning.

Eggplants, malunggay fruit, and sweet potatoes are usually the veggies used and fish is also added in. But you can practically add in any other vegetable and seafood just like what my dad did. He added malunggay leaves and then had some shrimps and mussels instead of fish.

We were all wondering why daddy cooked so much food that day. Aside from the family being complete, it's also his sister's birthday during that day so he decided to have a little celebration. Yup, my dad's very thoughtful that way. He never forgets to celebrate every special event (birthdays in particular) of people close to him, even if they are miles away! ;p

Sinful Sunday Lunch
June 6, 2010

Just when I thought that I was already spared from having to eat meat for the weekend, my dad cooked not just one but two meat dishes! Talk about ruined diet haha! ;p

First on the menu was Pork Estofado. It has pata as its main ingredient. Fried saging na saba and pandesal are also added in. This dish is one of my favorites! *drools*

And then there's this sinful bulalo. Instead of potatoes, my dad usually uses sweet potatoes. He also adds in saging na saba, corn, Baguio beans, and cabbage.  He always intentionally puts in a lot of veggies since I usually eat just the veggies when I'm on a diet. :)

Tasty looking dishes, huh? I bet I got you all hungry haha! Just wait 'til you taste the real thing! :D

Nice Hat!

After our lunch at Super Bowl, Karen still has not arrived so we decided to roam around for some window shopping. We passed by The White Hat stall and immediately grabbed some dessert. Since yogurts are generally healthy, we thought it would be a great way to balance out what we had during lunch.

We had a hard time choosing from their toppings since everything looks yummy, so we just settled for their Hat combos. For Php 150 (large) or Php 120 (regular), you'll get to enjoy The White Hat's Italian Frozen Yogurt, with 3 best-seller toppings plus a free sauce drizzle! *drools*

Mark chose the Cowboy Hat, while I chose the Baker's Hat.

Cowboy Hat (Large) & Baker's Hat (Large) - Php 150 each

The Cowboy Hat has toppings of homemade brownies, a choice of cocopops or barquillos, and dark choco chips.

The Baker's Hat has homemade cheesecake, a choice of blueberries or red ruby cherries, and almond cluster as its toppings. Each combo also comes with a choice of caramel or chocolate sauce drizzle for free!

I love that their froyo was 98% fat free, but I guess the toppings were not. Well I don't care! Haha! Hmmm..I sense some additional pounds! Haha! ;p

Mark and I both enjoyed our hats and we will definitely try out the other hats next time. :)

Super Bowl of China

Mark accompanied me to Trinoma yesterday and we got there around 11:30am because I was supposed to have a lunch date with my friend Karen, but I got a message that she might come late, around 2pm, so I and Mark just decided to have our lunch instead.

He was craving for Chinese food so he suggested that we try Super Bowl of China. We were greeted by the friendly waiting staff who accompanied us to our seats. Another waiting staff followed and handed us their complimentary shrimp crackers. We started munching on it as we wait for our orders.

First to arrive were the drinks. Mark got bottomless Mug root beer while I chose the bottomless red iced tea. I didn't like their red iced tea and was very regretful of correcting Mark when he ordered bottomless iced tea. I really should have just ordered the iced tea.

Bottomless Root Beer (Php 65) & Bottomless Red Iced Tea (Php 79)

Served next were the Yang Chow Fried Rice and Braised Tofu with Mushrooms. Mark immediately thought that we might have to have our left overs wrapped since the servings were really generous.

I guess dining in Chinese restaurants will just never be complete without Yang Chow Fried Rice. Though it was not the best, I liked that their Yang Chow was not oily. There was a generous amount of shrimps too! :)

Yang Chow Fried Rice - Php 210

The Braised Tofu with Mushroom was a sure hit for both Mark and I. The mixture of veggies, tofu, and mushrooms in oriental sauce really appealed to our palates. The tofu was cooked just right and there was a generous amount of Shiitake mushrooms which I ♥♥♥! :p

The waiting staff suggested that we try the Super Bowl Lemon Chicken, which he claimed as one of their best sellers. It was good, alright, and it surely was better than what we had at President Tea House, but North Park's lemon chicken is still the best for me. ;p

I wanted to have dimsum but can't decide which dimsum to order so Mark suggested that we just get the Dimsum Combination Platter.  The platter consists of Siopao, Hakao, Siomai, Deep-fried Wanton, and Vegetarian Spring Rolls. The platter costs Php 260 but it was on a 50% off promo that time, and we were lucky enough to enjoy it for just Php 130. :)

Unlike in our dining experience at Seafood Island wherein we first thought that we might not finish everything but ended up consuming a feast for 3-4 persons, at Super Bowl we weren't able to finish even just a single dish. We were so full that we had left overs on each of our orders, so we just had them wrapped. Other than the Red Iced Tea, we were satisfied with the rest our orders. Aside from the good food, Super Bowl's customer service was also superb!

Revisiting Ciudad Fernandina: Heritage Village

Date of visit: May 6-9, 2010

After our nature trip at Baluarte, we headed to my lola's house for dinner.
