Being overweight and out of shape isn’t a fun way to live and is likely causing you constant angst in your life. Luckily, there are several pieces of advice you should highly consider listening to if you want to lose the weight and keep it off.
It’s not an easy journey and there will be times you’ll feel frustrated or doubt your abilities, but you have to keep going strong and fight through these emotions. Believe you can do it and you’re already halfway there. Take one day at a time, focus on all you’re doing right and what’s going well to help keep yourself motivated.
Set Goals & Track Your Progress
You’re not going to get too far in your weight loss journey if you don’t know where you’re heading. Take the time to set specific goals for what you want to achieve fitness wise. In addition to setting the goals, you need to track them and be willing to weigh yourself each week to see how you’re doing. The key here is to be honest with yourself and hold yourself accountable for your actions and not cut corners. Review your objectives daily so you can consistently remind yourself what it is you’re after and how you’re going to get there.
Exercise & Move More
It’s going to be very difficult to lose the weight if you live a sedentary lifestyle and refuse to burn more calories. What you can do is work more exercise and movement into your days by joining a gym, going for walks at lunchtime, and lifting weights. Eventually, you’ll notice your body becoming more toned and that you begin to lose inches off your waistline, arms, and legs. Track your daily steps as a way to make sure you’re meeting your fitness goals on a regular basis and aren’t cheating yourself. If it helps, find a workout buddy who you can break a sweat with and make the process of losing weight more fun.
Proactively Manage Your Stress
Losing weight will be nearly impossible if you’re constantly stressed out and not taking care of yourself. You can learn more online about how you can proactively manage your stress and feel more relaxed on a regular basis. You need to find ways for how you can feel calmer and experience less anxiety in your life if your goal is to take off unwanted pounds. You’re more likely to eat unhealthy foods, sleep fewer hours, and turn to destructive behaviors and habits when you let your stress get out of control. You’ll be able to take the weight off more easily when you’re focused and aren’t constantly experiencing negative emotions.
Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is a critical factor in your weight loss journey and not enough of it will cause you to hang onto the weight. Your mind and body need these hours to restore, rebuild, heal and keep your metabolism running strong. It’s a wise idea to shut down your electronics before bed and participate in relaxing activities that help you unwind such as taking a hot shower, reading a book or drinking tea. Make sure your room is set to a decent temperature and that you block any light from entering your bedroom, so you can get the most peaceful rest possible each night.
Cook for Yourself at Home
You’ll find it more challenging to lose the weight when you’re constantly eating out and consuming more calories than what your body truly needs. An alternative is to cook for yourself at home and create and consume healthy dishes that help instead of hinder you from meeting your wellness goals. This way you can better control the ingredients you’re eating and your portion size at each meal. You may find you enjoy cooking and that it becomes one of your favorite hobbies because it allows you to relax and feel good about yourself. You’ll not only start to lose more weight, but you’ll also be saving more money.
Keep A Food Journal
It’s easy to grab an extra snack here and there and indulge in sweets and sugar when you’re not paying much attention. Avoid this situation by keeping a food journal and writing down all you’re eating throughout the day. Do this, and you’ll likely think twice before having an extra portion at mealtime or eating dessert every night. Review your journal often, and you’ll quickly see why you are or aren’t losing the weight and what adjustments need to be made. Sometimes all it takes to succeed is you being truthful with yourself and recognizing your habits and calling yourself out when you notice you’re not sticking to your word.
Stay Patient
Unfortunately, you’re not going to lose a lot of weight overnight or even over the course of a few weeks. It takes time, and it’s typically a slow process if you go about it the right way. It’s going to be easy to get frustrated when you feel like you’re taking the right action but don’t see the scale moving down. Stay patient and know that eventually, you’ll begin to see the results you desire if you stick with your new routine and don’t indulge in too many cheat days or meals. You’re more likely to lose the weight and not gain it back when you view this journey as a lifestyle change versus a temporary fix or diet. Celebrate your milestones along the way and reward yourself in a healthy manner when you start to hit certain goals.
While losing weight can be a struggle, it’s also doable with the right attitude and approach. Take advantage of these pieces of advice as you begin your journey to living a healthier lifestyle. Keep in mind that you’re more likely to find success and lose the pounds when you’re in a good place mentally and are continuing to challenge yourself physically. Accept that there will be ups and downs you’ll have to endure but that if you stick with it, you’ll eventually reap all the benefits
